First week of Training

So I started  my first week of training and it has been going great! This resort is so big and has so many different areas that I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.So I started off in the Water Park, which yes is a full on water park with slides and pools and water falls and stuff like that.. Basically my job there is to lifeguard and play. The main part of this job is to interact with guests, so we are always trying to start games and activities with our guests whether it be water polo, water basketball, water volleyball, and other fun activities.
After Water Park we were trained on Racket Center, which is your outdoor sports like soccer, basketball, tennis (which we have the only indoor tennis facility on Guam) archery, racket ball, bungee trampoline, mini put etc. The main part of this job is to once again play these activities with guests and also to rent out equipment. Racket center wasn't my favorite spot so far, but still a cool place to be.

After Racket Center we were trained on Swim Through, which is probably the coolest spot I've been trained on so far. Swim Through is one of 3 swim through aquariums in the world! Guests literally get to snorkel through our aquarium and see hundreds of tropical fish and under water creatures. I led my first swim through snorkeling tour today, and am excited to do the real deal out in the coral beds in the ocean next week.

So yesterday, I had my first day off, which was amazing! Some of the new hires and I rented a car and toured the island. We had a few destinations to get see but by far the coolest spot was a beach called Ratidian, which was the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. The rain-forest literally goes right up to the untouched white sandy beach where there was the clearest, crystal blue water I've ever seen. We ended up spending most of our day there snorkeling, playing in the water and mainly relaxing. I learned how to husk coconuts and how to crack them open. It's quite harder than I thought to get to the good part of a coconut but it was definitely worth it. I've never really been a fan of coconuts probably because I have never had a fresh cracked open one before.

As hard as it was to leave, we finally packed up and made our way to the edge of Tumon bay to a point called "Two Lover's Point" which was on sheer cliffs probably 200 ft down. We were able to see views of all Tumon Bay and were even lucky enough to catch the sunset.

Life at the resort is non stop fun. The pick up games with my co-workers are awesome because most of my co-workers are pretty athletic, and it's everything from tennis to soccer to wallyball to beach volleyball. There's never a dull moment here.

My Arrival

Hafa Adai,

So upon my long anticipated arrival to Guam, I was met at the airport by my staff trainer Shintaro, along with a wave of humidity that immediately made me begin to sweat. I was told I am one of 5 new hires to come to Pacific Island Club (PIC) Guam and that we will all begin training together Thursday (keep in mind I am a day ahead of all you guys).
Once at the hotel, Shintaro then showed us where our rooms were and what the next couple of days was going to look like and then pretty much said see you tomorrow at 9am for breakfast, Hafa adai..which I'm pretty sure is like saying aloha in Hawaii. If you like to google map things, PIC is located in Tumon Bay Guam, which is on the western side of the island, just above the middle.
So after Shintaro left, I ran into my good friend Sage (the girl who pretty much got me the job) and she started showing me and another new hire, Lindsey around the property. It was night time and around 84 degrees, just to give you an idea of what the temp is like.
So today we had the day off. We eat at the same place the rest of the guests eat which is at this gourmet buffet with everything! Seriously overwhelming how much good food is there. Were talking sushi, crusted ahi and just about every other fish you can think of, exotic fruits, every dessert you could possibly want, ribs, amazing soups...the list goes on and on..
So after eating one of the new hirees and I decided to check out the beach. Once we got there we were immediately met by some other employees that encouraged us to take advantage of all the equipment. So we started with windsurfing. That was pretty fun even though the wind wasn't blowing that hard. Windsurfing is actually really easy too. Then we went onto some paddle boarding which was way cool to be paddling through the water with tons of tropical fish swimming below us. Then my favorite part of the day. Snorkeling. It was amazing to say the least. Right off of our sandy white beaches are these amazing coral reefs that are teaming with tropical fish, sea slugs, sea stars, and soooo much more. It blew my mind. Thousands of tropical fish were all around me. I cannot count the amount of times I would come up from snorkeling take a look around me and pinch myself because of how unreal it all was.
After snorkeling we went to lunch.. another amazing meal.. I'll probably be mentioning those in all of these blogs.. The rest of the day was spent near or on the beach. They have tons of activities to do here. Everything from archery to tennis to basketball to beach volleyball to all of the aquatic sports. They also have a water park with water slides, multiple pools, and plenty of little places here and there to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
So ya that was pretty much my first day. I'm super excited for what the next two weeks of training holds and what area I'll be specializing in. Hopefully the aquatic center with all of the snorkeling and kayaking and what not.  Oh! and walking around the resort lobby is really cool because they have tons of huge butterflies flying around and the geckos just climb all over.. it definitely has a tropical feel here.
On a last note for all of those family that are thinking of a nice little tropical vacation, you all get to stay here for free with free access to all of the amenities! And they allow one week, but I'm pretty sure I could get you two if you wanted
And friends.. same deal, except you would have to stay in my room. I think they allow up to ten days..
Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this..keep a look out for the next one.

miss you..

Bobby
